CEX Invited Artist

DEE CRAIG – Linecea As part of the 2012 Art in the Eastside project, Creative Exchange invited local artist David ‘Dee’ Craig to take part  in the project.  Dee is an experienced mural and community painter and in recent years has shown his strong figurative work, depicting working men and women of Belfast  across Northern Ireland, Ireland and the UK.  ‘Linacea’ is part of a new body of work  entitled ‘Linenopolis’ … celebrating Belfast’s incredible manufacturing history, especially the female workforce, who were employed in the many linen and ropework mills of East Belfast. His style  encapsulates everything from the painful expression of what was then a labour intensive lifestyle, through to remembering, that while these girls were the backbone of this tough industry with proud work ethic, above all else they were still feminine and beautiful, a point that is often overlooked.
